Mahendra Singh Dhoni Early Life:

MS Dhoni was born in Ranchi, Bihar( now in Jharkhand). His father’s name is Pan Singh who served in Junior Management position in MECON. His mother name is Devki Devi and having a sister named Jayanti Gupta and a brother named Narendra Singh Dhoni.  Dhoni childhood idols were cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, singer Lata Mangeshkar, and Mukesh.

Dhoni started his schooling at DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Ranchi, Jharkhand. In his school day, he was excellent in Football as a goalkeeper and in Badminton. He used to play football for his school team. His Football coach noticed his goalkeeping skill and asked him to play cricket as a wicketkeeper for the school team. After that Dhoni wicketkeeping skill in a local match have impressed everyone he played Commando Cricket Club (1995-98) as a regular wicketkeeper.

Bihar-Jharkhand Cricket team:

From getting 50 rupees for hitting each six for CCL team by Deval Sahay, Director of Central Coal Limited (CCL) to finishes match off in style for team India he made so many records. By his hard-hitting six, Deval Sahay used his contacts in Bihar Cricket Association to push for his selection in Bihar team. Dhoni was included in Bihar U-19 squad for 1998-99 season and scored 176 runs in 5 matches but his team was unable to make place in quater-final. As a result he was not selected for rest of any tournaments.

In 1999-2000, Bihar U-19 team made their place in final in Cooch Behar Trophy against Punjab U-19. Dhoni played a magnificent inning of 84 runs to help Bihar a total of 357 runs. Dhoni future Indian squad teammate scored Yuvraj Singh scored 358 runs in that match results in a total of 839 runs for Punjab. After that series, Yuvraj Singh get a call from India U-19 team. While Dhoni once again fail to make a chance in India U-19 team.

Ranji Trophy:

In 1999-2000 season, Dhoni made his Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar as an eighteen-year old boy. In his debut match against Assam Cricket Team, Dhoni made his maiden half century scoring 68* runs in second inning. Dhoni ended the season scoring 283 runs in 5 matches. He also made his maiden first-class century while playing for Bihar against Bengal in 2000-01. Apart from that, his performance was not so good in any season till 2002 as he also served as a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) in those years.

India A Team:

After his performance in 2003-04 season, he was recognized for his efforts in One-Day format because of his hard-hitting capacity. This results him to got a chance to play for India- A for a tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya. Dhoni showed his wicket-keeping skills by his 7 catches and 4 stumpings in the match against Zimbabwe XI in Harare Sports Club.

After that against a tri-series involving Kenya, India-A and Pakistan-A, Dhoni scored two back to back centuries and a half century. At an average of 72.40, he scored a total of 362 runs in 6 innings. ODI Career:

In a tour against Bangladesh in 2004-05, Sourav Ganguly suggested Indian Team selectors to go for Dhoni as a wicket-keeper batsman. Dhoni made his ODI debut on Dec 23, against Bangladesh at MA Aziz Stadium. Unfortunately he started his ODI career as a run-out for duck in his debut match. The series was not good for Dhoni, in spite of that he was selected for Pakistan ODI series.

Start of “Dhoni” era:

In the second match of the series against Pakistan, Dhoni scored his maiden International century of 148 runs in 123 deliveries in Visakhapatnam. His magnificent inning includes 15 fours and 4 big sixes. He also became the player of the match in that match for his outstanding knock of 148 runs.

After that, in a bilateral series against Sri Lanka he was promoted at no. 3 in the third ODI. India chased down a total of 298 runs easily as Dhoni finished that match in his style scoring a total of 183* runs. It remains his highest individual runs in ODI till now with 15 fours and 10 sky touching sixes. He was awarded as player of the match for his match winning century. Twenty20 World Cup 2007

In 2008, it was the first season of Indian Premier League (IPL) and Dhoni was the sold for $1.5 millions (INR 6 crores) to Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He was the highest paid player in that season.
